This year marks 20 years since the establishment MEFMI and the Institute will commemorate its 20th Anniversary along-side the annual Combined Forum.  Both events will take place on Monday 6 October 2014 at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza, 1001 14th Street, NW, Washington DC, 20005 in the United States of America.  The Combined Forum traditionally takes place just before the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting and the World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings. 

 

The Forum will be officially opened by the Zimbabwe Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Honourable Patrick Chinamasa. Also expected to attend are high level officials from the World Bank and the IMF.

 

The theme for the Combined Forum is “Stimulating Opportunities for Growth and Development in Eastern and Southern Africa”.  The theme will be expounded through presentations which will be made by some private sector practitioners currently working in the fore, to promote economic development strategies for the Africa region. The presentations will be on Cross Border Infrastructure Development: Opportunities and Constraints, Mobilising Domestic Institutional Savings to Catalyse Infrastructure Development, Policies for Attracting and Managing Foreign Direct Investment, Re-Orienting Public Expenditure Priorities and Sovereign International Bond Issuance.

 

The Combined Forum will be followed by a dinner to celebrate 20 years of existence of MEFMI.
